At Beach Ball Mania last month, Jack E Hyde was crowned the new Pandemonium champion, a championship which I think suits Hyde perfectly. Lets not forget that this is a championship that is unpredictable and unique, the same words that you could use to describe Jack E Hyde. I think it would be very fitting to look more in to this title belt and indeed Jack E Hyde ahead of Fury Road in Bury St Edmunds.
The Pandamoium title was introduced into DOA at the third annual Beach Ball Mania back in 2021, in the first show back after the initial lockdown period. The first champion was decided in a 10 man battle royal, which obviously had a beach party theme. The era of pandamonium got off to a thrilling start when it seemed that Banker Marc Lloyd had won only for Xander to come out of nowhere and throw him over the top rope to become the first champion. The new division had been born and for anyone who does not know what makes this championship so unique, let me explain. Anyone who is challenging the champion gets to choose the match stipulation, so as you can imagine, the past three years really have offered a range of match types within DOA.
With challangers setting the stipulation, the DOA fans have had their eyes opened to all sorts of matches. From a highway to hell match, to a saved by the bell match, all the way to a 'call me daddy match'. So essentially, you will see matches from traditional rules all the way through to the damn well strange - and at Fury Road the loser is going to dress as a shark for the rest of the year. You did not read that wrong, I did indeed say the loser will dress as a shark, but more on that later.
You only need to read the list of people who have held this championship over the past two years to see how open it is to anyone. Two former heavyweight champions Damien and Danny Darko have held it, our current Heavyweight champion Big Joe has held it, Xander, The Banker, Ali-OK, Lord Steven Farrell and most recently Hex have all etched their names in the title history, and now Jack E Hyde joins that list.
Jack E Hyde did not win the title in a traditional way though and this will make him even more determind to prove himself and show everyone why he deserves to be champion. Despite being part of DOA for nearly ten years, this is his first singles title (he has held the tag team gold). This all came about after his best friend and long time tag team partner Hex won the belt but then was struck down with a devastating knee injury. Last month at Beach Ball Mania, Hex came to the ring and informed the audience that he was out injured and therefore was unable to defend the championship. He called out Forgotten partner Jack E Hyde and mentioned how they were scheduled for an over the top rope match. Hex proceeded to step over the top rope so that Jack E Hyde was crowned the new champion. In a touching moment, the Yarmouth faithful all chanted "you deserve it", and just like that the new era of Pandamoium was upon us all.
This was a big moment for Hyde and maybe made all the years of turmoil he has been through worth it. There has never been a dull moment when he has been around in DOA and the fans never know what to expect. This man changes his appearance more than most normal people change their socks - he seems to have a different mask for every day of the week, some arty and some damn well freaky and scary, I guess it just depends on how he is feeling that day. It is no secret that Hyde has had battles with mental health and this even resulted in Director of Authority Banker sending him for help last year. Regardless, the fans love him, they can somehow relate to his struggles but at the same time there is still an air of mystery as to what he is all about. I have no doubt there is a lot more to this man for us all to find out.
There is also something endearing about his friendship and loyalty to Hex - a man who was once simply known as Ben Hull until he was cursed by a Voodoo Queen and became the monster we now all know as Hex. The pair were once part of the Purge along with Damien and helped him become the champion then also helped that very Voodoo Queen Amara become the womens champion. However, amongst all of the success, the pair seemed to get forgotten by Damien and his queen, so Hyde and Hex broke away and appropriatley became known as the Forgotten. Mind, the Purge did not let that go and Hyde went to hell and back when he was kidnapped and paraded around in a straight jacket, something many would say was the best place for him at times.
The Forgotten went on to achieve tag team success when they defeated The Rebellion to become the DOA tag team champions, they also hold the record of being DOA's longest serving tag team. The foundations are as solid as ever it seems and they have an unbreakable bond, so I see them being 'forgotten' for many more years. In 2021 they joined forces with Rexx Wylde to form a group known as 'No Remorse' - three long time members of DOA who set out to treat people the way they had been treated. It started to crumble though when The Banker made them see the error of their ways and sent Jack for treatment. Rexx went in a different direction though and went on to achieve tag team success with Sullivan King as the Wylde Kings whilst Hex and Hyde once again became Forgotten.
Well that is until now, because with Hex out injured it is all eyes on Jack E Hyde as he gets set to make his first title defense at Fury Road against Dillon Slade. Despite scoring a pinfall over Farrell Family leader Lord Steven Farrell last month, it seems Slade still has not been accepted into the Family, something he has been trying to do since back in May. He thinks that winning the title might just be enough because this is the same title Lord Steven lost to Hex in comical fashion last time out at Bury St Edmunds. He will be doing his best to get a second victory in a row but Jack E Hyde can never be under estimated and as I have stated, he is also on a mission - a mission to prove he is a worthy champion. Slade has described him on social media as a 'gimp' this week and Hyde has responded with a very creepy video with no words - after all, words don't win matches, actions do. There is so much more than just a championship on the line in this match.
Oh what about the shark costume? Well, Dillon Slade had the option to choose any match stipulation and he chose that the loser must wear a shark costume for the rest of 2023 (I did say this pandemonium title business was random). This is the same costume that Slade wore in his match with Farrell at Beach Ball Mania which led to him later being branded an 'embarrassment', so it seems Slade wants to be the one embarrassing Jack E Hyde. Lets be honest though, with some of the stuff Hyde has worn in the past, would dressing as a shark really bother him? This is going to be interesting for sure.
