It all seemed to be a bit of fun at the time, there was Dillon Slade trying to win over Lord Steven Farrell in their match at Beach Ball Mania, when he slipped to the outside and put on a shark costume. The costume was in line with the show theme and casually lay in wait under the ring until Slade slipped it on. It is pretty obvious by now that Dillon Slade is just a fun loving guy, someone who could be described as similar to an excited puppy. This was just an attempt at a bit of fun but it did not go down well with Lord Steven who labelled him an 'embarrassment'.
Since back in May, Dillon Slade has been attempting to impress Farrell and the Family in hope of being the new member. Each attempt seemed to be in vein though and something always seemed to go wrong which resulted in the Family stringing Slade along and offering second, third and fourth chances to prove himself. The victory over Farrell himself should have been the moment where Slade had finally proven himself 'worthy' but the shark costume proved to be another excuse for the Family to reject Slade.
However, not one to give up, Dillon Slade had another plan up his sleeve to try and win his place in the group. He was handed a shot at the Pandemonium championship against Jack E Hyde - a title previously held by Lord Farrell. Slade saw this as a perfect opportunity to win the title and impress the Family by bringing it back to them. As with any Pandemonium championship match, as the challenger, Slade was able to choose the match stipulation. In what was one of the most bizarre match stipulations in DOA history, Dillon chose that the loser must where a shark costume for the rest of the year - the very same shark costume Slade wore at Beach Ball Mania. When explaining his reason for choosing this, Slade stated that this was his chance to embarrass someone - Jack E Hyde.
Ahead of the match at Fury Road two weeks ago, Slade was beaming with confidence as he informed Steven Farrell and Brad O'Brien he was going to bring the belt back to the family. Farrell seemed disgusted and O'Brien simply told him to 'shut up'. Regardless, Slade went out for the match and equaled Hyde step by step. Things took a dramatic turn though when Jack E Hyde used the middle rope to low blow Slade and then hit a stunner before placing his feet on the ropes for leverage and scored a pinfall victory. Dillon Slade had lost and Lord Steven Farrell ensured he was there to hand Slade the shark costume and tell him he was cutting him loose as there must be better options. The normally excitable Slade looked lost and broken as he left the ring and headed backstage. As it turned out, the Family recruited Sir Ryan Matthews later that night showing they were done and dusted with Dillon Slade once and for all.
Many would question what Dillon Slade's mindset would be following that big moment, but to everyone's surprise, there appeared to be a new lease of life as we later found out. At the end of Fury Road, Dillon Slade complete with shark costume was one of the wrestlers that followed Banker Marc Lloyd out to the ring to save Ben Jones. During the Banker's speech where he made several matches for the upcoming 10 year anniversary show - he announced that tag team champions The Wylde Kings would defend against Danny Darko and none other than Dillon Slade! With that news, Slade was back to his normal self and unable to contain his excitement as he celebrated by jumping on Darko's back.
The tables have turned and now Dillon Slade has a huge opportunity to not only get one over on the Family who rejected him, but also to become a tag team champion. What better person to have by his side - Danny Darko, a man who has pretty much seen and done it all in DOA. Whilst he came up short in his most recent tag team match with the Wylde Kings, he did defeat Rexx Wylde in a singles match at Beach Ball Mania. The beer downing former champion now has a different kind of partner by his side though in the form of a man dressed as a shark. Dillon Slade his shown us all he is loyal, he has heart and he has guts, combine that with someone like Darko and we have a great tag team match on our hands.
The Wylde Kings, now in their second reign as tag team champions cannot be under estimated though - they are simply two brutes, they have the power and they have the experience of working as a tag team. But just imagine, the beer drinker and the man in a shark costume winning the belts? That surely without any doubt would be another DOA first right there!
